About This Project

Views encountered at the entry onto this site inspired a plan which a split and splayed to allow a focused view through the house out to Kawau Bay beyond.

Stepped roofs allowed the inclusion of high-level glazing flooding the interior spaces with natural light. Wide opening bi-fold doors either end of the living wing achieves full transparency through the house while providing cooling cross ventilation through the space.

The central glazed spine of the home provides a natural division between the two-storied sleeping wing to the east and the living wing to the west.

A double-height entry lobby slices through the home, over which a landing to nowhere floats to provide a contemplative platform for views through the pohutukawa trees out to the bay and the islands beyond.
